What sets A Helping Hand apart from other childcare providers?
At A Helping Hand, we’re parents, too—mothers who understand what families truly need. As our organization has grown alongside our own children, we’ve mastered how to create safe, engaging, and dependable childcare experiences. Whether in private homes, military communities, or professional sports organizations, we provide care with the expertise, intuition, and heart that only parents can offer.
What services does A Helping Hand provide?
A Helping Hand is a professional childcare organization providing in-home childcare, on-site event childcare, and customized children’s programming. Our experienced Helpers are fully vetted to ensure the safety, engagement, and well-being of your children — whether you need support at home or are hosting an event.
Where does A Helping Hand provide in-home childcare services?
For Hampton Roads, Virginia (Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Norfolk), we provide childcare through direct pay and organizationally-subsidized programs.
For San Diego, California, we offer childcare through direct pay and organizationally-subsidized programs.
For the contiguous United States, we offer childcare through organizationally-subsidized programs.
Do you charge a membership or sign-up fee?
No, A Helping Hand does not charge any membership or fees to register your account. However, we do charge a small fee when you book our services. For direct-pay families, booking fees are billed upon acceptance of your service request and must be paid in full, 48 hours prior to your service start date.
How can I book childcare services in my home?
Booking with A Helping Hand is simple. You’ll start by setting up your account on our service management portal. We’ll quickly review and once approved, you’ll receive a “Welcome to A Helping Hand” email with instructions guiding you through the service-booking process. All service requests will be completed quickly and easily online through our portal.
How are your Helpers screened and trained?
Our Helpers are carefully selected for their experience and passion for childcare. Each Helper completes comprehensive training and must pass a thorough vetting process, which includes fingerprinting, background checks (criminal and driving records), reference checks, and verification of CPR and First Aid certification. We ensure every Helper meets our high standards of safety, care, and professionalism.
Are your Helpers insured?
Yes. All of our Helpers are covered under A Helping Hand’s insurance policy, ensuring peace of mind and protection for both the families we serve and our providers during every service.
May I request a specific childcare provider?
Yes! You may request up to three of our fully-vetted Helpers when submitting a booking request. Your selected Helpers will have 24 hours to respond. After that time, the request will open to our wider team of available Helpers. For requests made with fewer than 48 hours notice, specific Helper preferences cannot be prioritized. Please contact us if you’d like more details about requesting preferred Helpers.
Can my employer help cover the cost of childcare?
Yes! Many families use employer-subsidized childcare benefits to reduce or even eliminate out-of-pocket costs. If your employer does not currently offer childcare assistance, we’d be happy to provide them with information on how to partner with A Helping Hand.
How can I suggest A Helping Hand to my employer?
It’s simple — just connect us with your HR or Benefits team, and we’ll do the rest. We’ll share partnership options that make it easy for employers to subsidize childcare services for their staff.
